For salaries and expenses of the Joint Committee on Defense Production as authorized by the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended, $80,000. For other joint items, as follows: CAPrrOL P O L I C E GENERAL E X P E N S E S

For purchasing and supplying unifonns; the purchase, maintenance, and repair of police motor vehicles, including two-way police radio equipment; contingent expenses, including $26 per month for extra services performed for the Capitol Police Board by such member of the staff of the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate or the House, as may be designated by the Chairman of the Board; $50,000. To enable the Capitol Police Board to provide additional protection for the Capitol Buildings and Grounds, including the Senate and House Office Buildings and the Capitol Power Plant, $809,000. Such sum shall be expended only for payment of salaries and other expenses of personnel detailed from the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia, and the Commissioners of the District of Columbia are authorized and directed to make such details upon the request of ^^® Board. Personnel so detailed shall, during the period of such detail, serve under the direction and instnictions of the Board and are authorized to exercise the same authority as members of such Metropolitan Police and members of the Capitol Police and to perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board. Reimbursement for salaries and other expenses of such detail persoimel shall be made to the government of the District of Columbia, and any sums so reimbursed shall be credited to the appropriation or appropriations from which such salaries and expenses are payable and shall be available for all the purposes thereof: Provided, That any person detailed under the authority of this paragraph or under similar authority in the Legislative Branch Appropriation Act, 1942, and the Second Deficiency Appropria^JQ^ Act, 1940, froui the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia shall be deemed a member of such Metropolitan Police during the period or periods of any such detail for all purposes of rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits to the same extent as though such detail had not been made, and at the termination thereof any such person who was a member of such police on July 1, 1940, shall have a status with i*espect to rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits which is not less than the status of such person in such police at the end of such detail: Provided further, That the Commissioners of the District of Columbia are directed (1) to pay the detective captain detailed under the authority of this paragraph his salary as a detective captain plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so lon^ as this position is held by the present incumbent, (2) to pay the uniformed lieutenant detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as acting captain a salary of the rank of captani plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as this position is held by the present incumpeut, (3) to
