COMPENSATION AND MILEAGE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT AND SENATORS

For compensation and mileage of the Vice President and Senators of the United States, $4,778,340. EXPENSE ALLOWANCES OP THE VICE PRESIDENT AND MAJORITY AND MINORITY LEADERS

For expense allowance of the Vice President, $10,000; Majority Leader of the Senate, $3,000; and Minority Leader of the Senate, $3,000; in all, $16,000. SALARIES, OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES

For compensation of officers, employees, clerks to Senators, and others as authorized by law, including agency contributions and longevity compensation as authorized, which shall be paid from this appropriation without regard to the below limitations, as follows: OFFICE o r THE VICE PRESIDENT

For clerical assistance to the Vice President, $430,200. OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE

For office of the President pro tempore, $54,130: Provided. That effective July 1, 1972, the Comptroller may appoint and fix the compensation of an auditor at not to exceed $18,130 per annum in lieu of a secretary at not to exceed $15,281 per annum. OFFICES OF THE MAJORITY AND MINORITY LEADERS

For offices of the Majority and Minority Leaders, $206,165. OFFICES OF THE MAJORITY AND MINORITY WHIPS

Forofficesof the Majority and Minority Whips, $104,640.

OFFICE OF THE CHAPLAIN

For office of the Chaplain, $18,650. OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY

For office of the Secretary, $2,244,230, including $99,974 required for the purpose specified and authorized by section 74b of title 2, United States Code: Provided, That effective July 1, 1972, the Secretary may appoint and fix the compensation of a third assistant parliamentarian at not to exceed $19,684 per annum, and a messenger at not to exceed $9,583 per annum.
