Public Law 97-24 97th Congress An Act To extend the time for conducting the referendum with respect to the national marketing quota for wheat for the marketing year beginning June 1, 1982, and to eliminate the requirement that the Secretary of Agriculture waive interest on loans made on 1980 and 1981 crops of wheat and feed grains placed in the farmerheld grain reserve.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 336 of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938 (7 U.S.C. 1336) is amended by striking out the last sentence and inserting in lieu thereof a new sentence as follows: "Notwithstanding any other provision hereof, the referendum with respect to the national marketing quota for wheat for the marketing year beginning June 1, 1982, may be conducted not later than the earlier of the following: (1) thirty days after adjournment sine die of the first session of the Ninety-seventh Congress, or (2) October 15, 1981.". SEC. 2. Section 110(b) of the Agricultural Act of 1949 (7 U.S.C. 1445e(b)) is amended by deleting in clause (3) of the second sentence the phrase ", and the Secretary shall waive such interest on loans made on the 1980 and 1981 crops of wheat and feed grains".
