May 26, 1983 ADJOURNMENT—HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES [S. Con. Res. 41] AND SENATE Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring). That when the Senate adjourns on Thursday, May 26, 1983, or Friday, May 27, 1983, pursuant to a motion made by the Majority Leader in accordance with this resolution, it stand adjourned until 12:00 noon on Monday, June 6, 1983, and that when the House adjourns on Thursday, May 26, 1983, it stand adjourned until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, June 1, 1983. Res. 14] BIRTH Whereas July 24, 1983, marks the bicentennial of the birth of Simon Bolivar, hero of the independence of the Americas; Whereas Simon Bolivar offered his life to democratic ideals and created a legacy of freedom and independence; Whereas Simon Bolivar, with his actions and patriotic commitment, forged the nationhood of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela; Whereas, through his political initiative, Simon Bolivar developed the ideal of Pan-Americanism based on independence, sover- eignty, unity, and solidarity, and developed the right of all nations to live in peace; and Whereas Simon Bolivar was the architect of the Treaty of Union, League and Perpetual Confederation at the historical Congress of Panama in 1826, implanting the roots of the oldest international system of cooperation among nations: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate (the House of Representatives concurring), That the Congress— (1) expressing the sentiments of the people of the United States, extoUs this illustrious figure, Simon Bolivar; (2) recognizes July 24, 1983, through July 23, 1984, as the bicentennial year of the birth of Simon Bolivar, hero of the independence of the Americas; (3) calls upon the President to issue a proclamation com- memorating the ideals and example of Simon Bolivar; (4) declares its intention to send a congressional delegation to Venezuela in July 1983 to represent the United States in the
