SUTTOR, John Bligh ( KOBE ), A.M.I.C.E.; Commercial Representative in the Far East of the Govt. of New South Wales; b., Bathurst (N.S.W.), Dec. 10, 1859. 4th s. late Hon. John Bligh Suttor. whose family have always been closely identified with the development of N.S.W., and is looked upon as one of the oldest pioneer families. Educ.: Bathurst and Sydney. Was appointed to the Public Service of New South Wales on Dec. 15, 1879, and adopted profession of Surveying and Engineering; for many years served as Resident Engineer on the State Railways of New South Wales; one of the last works completed by Mr. Suttor was the duplication of the Great Western Railway line over the Blue Mountains; also conducted large works for the improvement of grades and curves on the State railways; after serving for over 25 years on engineering works was appointed by Government of New South Wales as Commercial Representative in the Far East with a view of extending N.S.W. Commerce; was elected to the Institution of Civil Engineers, Lond., Dec. 3, 1895; was recommended by Government of Japan in 1906 to be decorated with the Order of the Sacred Treasure of Japan, as a reward for his services in promotion of commerce between Japan and Australia.
