While Jonathan Duncan gives sources for some of his facts, he gives no earlier source for this speech. No doubt Richard said something at his trial, but without further evidence, it seems most likely that these words have been composed by Duncan himself and placed in Richard's mouth, and I would caution against drawing firm conclusions from them about medieval ideas of kingship, etc.. —unsigned comment by GarethAd (talk) 11:42, 22 August 2021 (UTC).
