To wrap them up:

1. wrong place?

My suggestion:

1. Keep it here to encourage contributor to base the translation purely on the original Arabic Quran and refrain from including original innovative works.
2. It should be splitted into 563 semantical unit (ruku'at) for ease of editing and linking. Don't take this lightly! Wiki Document that is difficult to edit and link is a dead wiki document. For detailed splitting into ruku'at see http://www.seveneightsix.com/
3. Name it simply Quran1:1, Quran2:1, Quran2:8, Quran 2:21 according to verses where the ruku' starts.

Additional suggestions:

1. Please use QXP numbering instead of Progresif Muslim numbering. The original Arabic Quran as revealed to the Messenger does NOT have numbering. Therefore we are free to choose whatever numbering that eases as many people as possible to learn Quran.
2. Transliteration, once we split it into smaller semantical units, now it is possible to include transliteration. So, each wiki article has two section; the translation and the transliteration. This will be a big help for the contributors to verify the translation and eliminate any non-english text from this en.wikisource.org
3. Interlinking. One unique feature of the original Quran is that it explains itself, much like wiki interlinking feature. For example "the straight path" in 1:6 is explained as "My straight path" in 6:151-153.
4. Other English translation? Don't worry about it. We can have as many as possible version of English translation in Wikisource as long as it is from different author or a different contributor group (e.g. Progressive Muslim).

Notes for interlinking:

1. some keywords have direct link to another semantical part of Quran, but some needs a intermediate pages, such as disambiguation page or collection page
2. a disambiguation page is for a english tranlation word than matches several arabic words in the original Arabic Quran. For example QuranPrayer might refers to QuranDua or QuranSala
3. a collection page is for a Quranic keywords that is explained in several semantical unit spread across Quran. For example QuranSala contains list of semantical unit that mention Sala.
4. contributors might includes analytic comments on those intermediate pages. But if this comments are too big, e.g.: bigger than the original arabic Quran, then I suggest to move them into WikiBooks, because it is more like a public domain original works than a source text.

Hi,

No problem to have this here, I think Wikisource is also the place to host this kind of translations. Although it should be renamed (there should be only English texts here I believe, so no risk of confusion, but there could be other English translations of the Quran. Are there already any free or public domain translations of the Quran in English ?). Also it should be separate in several pages, all in one is too long. Yann 22:21, 21 September 2005 (UTC)

The reason I suggested moving it to Wikibooks is that it is not a public domain previously published text. We already have for example The Holy Qur'an. This on the other hand is a collaborative wiki translation of the Quran. Isn't that more or less exactly what Wikibooks was created for? Collaboratively annotated texts? Maybe they don't take translations there I'm not sure... --CSN 22:36, 21 September 2005 (UTC)
