  1. நிசம் ஒன்று பல தீங்கு நீக்கும்.
    One thing ascertained will remove many evils.
  2. நிசாம் அல்லி தண்டில் நிசார்க்காரனைக் கண்டது உண்டா?

    May new moon fare be expected daily?
    The proverb refers to the ceremonies which are performed, at the period of the new moon, in honour of deceased ancestors. On these occasions the household eat only once during the day, but the food is of a superior kind and prepared with great care in cooking utensils that are kept for sacred purposes. If a brahman be present he offers oblations of sesamum grain and water to the manes of the dead, naming each in order as fur back as the third generation.

    In some parts of India ceremonies supposed to affect the state of the dead are performed no less than ninety-six times every year. The ceremonies of the Ancient Romans of like kind are hinted at by Virgil and Horace as is known to the classical student.

    Plants decay on the ground from which they sprung.

    I do not want a kuruni heaped up, give me a kuruni of grain level with the brim.
  32. நினைக்குமுன் வருவான் நினைப்பதும் தருவான்.
    He will come before you think of him, he will give what you intend applying for.
  33. நினைத்த நேரம் நெடுமழை பெய்யுமா?
    Will heavy rain fall as we may wish?
  34. நினைத்தது இருக்க நினையாதது எய்தும், நினைத்தது வந்தாலும் வந்து நேரும்.
    When one thing is expected another may come, and that which is thought of may possibly come.
  35. நின்ற மரத்தில் நெடு மரம் போனால் நிற்கும் மரமே நெடுமரம்.
    When the lofty trees are felled, the remaining trees look tall.
  36. நின்ற வெள்ளத்தையும் வந்த வெள்ளம் கொண்டு போயிற்று.
    The flood that was, has been swept away by the flood that followed.
  37. நின்றால் நெடு மரம் விழுந்தால் பனைமரம்.
    When standing, a tall tree, when fallen, a palmyrah tree.
  38. நின்றாற்போல் விழுந்தால் தலை உடையும்.
    If you fall as you stand, your head will be broken.
