  1. பெட்டியிற் பாம்புபோல் அடங்கினான்.
    He was as quiet as a snake in a box.

  31. பெரியோர் முன் எதிர்த்துப்பேசில், வெள்ளத்திற்க்குமுன் மரங்களைப்போல் வீழ்வார்கள்,
    If they should contradict the great, they will fall like trees before a flood.
  32. பெருங் கயிறு முடி அழுந்தாது.
    A tight knot cannot be formed in a thick rope.

  39. பெரு மழை விழுந்தாற் குளிராது.
    No feeling of cold in a heavy fall of rain.
  40. பெருமாள் இருக்கிற வரையில் திருநாள் உண்டு.
    As long as Perumal exists holy days will be observed.

  41. பெருமாள் என்கிற பெயரை மாற்றப் பெரிய பெருமாள் ஆச்சுது.
    The name Perumal being changed has become great Perumal.
  42. பெருமானைச் சேர்ந்தோர்க்கு பிறப்பு இல்லை, பிச்சைச் சோற்றிற்கு எச்சில் இல்லை.
    Those who have attained union with God are not subject to future births, rice given in alms is not refused because it is refuse.
  43. பெருமாள் நினைத்தால் வாழ்வு குறைவா, பிரமா நினைத்தால் ஆயுசு குறைவா?
    If God is pleased, will there be any lack of prosperity, if Brahma favour, will one’s life be short?
  44. பெருமைதான் அருமையை குலைக்கும்.
    Pride will diminish one’s worth.
  45. பெருமையான தரித்திரன் வீண்.
    Pride in a poor man is vain.
  46. பெருமை ஒரு முறம் புடைத்து எடுத்தால் ஒன்றும் இல்லை.
    When a sieve, full of pride, is sifted, nothing remains.
  47. பெருமையும் சிறுமையும் வாயால் வரும்.
    The great and the little come from the mouth.
  48. பெருமைக்கு ஆட்டை அடித்துப் பிள்ளை கையில் காதைச் சுட்டுக் கொடுத்தான்.
    He killed a sheep to show his greatness, and gave the ear to his child after roasting it.
  49. பெரு ரூபத்தை உடையவரும் பிரயோசனமாய் இருக்கமாட்டார். அதுபோல, பனை விதை பெரிதாய் இருந்தும் நிழல் கொடுக்கமாட்டாது.
    The great are not always helpful, the lofty palmyrah casts no shade.

    Do you practise your arts on your mother?
  52. பெற்ற தாய் செத்தால் பெற்ற அப்பன் சிற்றப்பன்.
    If a mother dies, the father becomes uncle.
  53. பெற்ற தாய் பசித்திருக்கப் பிராமண போஜனம் செய்ததுபோல.
    Like feeding brahmans when one’s mother is starving.
  54. பெற்றது எல்லாம் பிள்ளையா இட்டது எல்லாம் பயிரா?
    Are all that are brought forth children, is all that is sown available for use?
  55. பெற்றது எல்லாம் பிள்ளையோ வளைந்தது எல்லாம் குசக்கலமோ?
    Are all that are brought forth children, is all earthen ware perfect that is fashioned by a potter?
  56. பெற்ற மனம் பித்து, பிள்ளை மனம் கல்லு.
    The mother’s heart is soft, that of her child is as a stone.
  57. பெற்றோர்க்கு இல்லைச் சுற்றமும் சினமும்.
    The wise are not moved by relationship or anger.
