    Give your eyes in exchange for white-eyed fish.

  12. வெட்கம் கெட்டவனுக்கு மேனி எல்லாம் அழுக்குத்தான்.
    The whole body of the shameless, is dirty.
  13. வெட்டப் பலம் இல்லை வெட்டிக்குப் போக மனம் இல்லை.

    A curry made without vendayam-Trigonella Fœnum Grœcum-is not a curry, a village without a market is not a village.

  47. வெல்லம் சாப்பிடுகிறவன் ஒருவன் விரலைச் சூப்புகிறவன் ஒருவன்.
    One eats the sugar, another licks his fingers.
  48. வெல்லப் போனான் ஒரு செல்லப்பிள்ளை மெல்லப் போனாள் ஒரு அமுங்குத் தலையன்.
    A pet child went to conquer, a flat-headed fellow followed him slowly.
  49. வெல்லாது உங்கள் படை செல்லாது பாண்டியன்முன்.
    Your army will not conquer, nor even oppose Pandya.
  50. வெளிச்சம் இருள் ஆனால் இருள் என்னவாம், மெய்ஞ்ஞானி துர்மார்க்கனானால் அஞ்ஞானி எப்படி ஆவான்?
    If light become darkness, what will the darkness be; if a wise man becomes wicked, what a great fool he will be?

    If the Vellala did not procure your ruin, his white olas will destroy you.
  64. வெள்ளாளன் மினுக்குப்பண்ணிக் கெட்டான், வேசி சளுக்கும் பண்ணிக் கெட்டாள்.
    The Vellala was ruined by adornment, the harlot by finery.
  65. வெள்ளாளன் கிரந்தமும் பார்ப்பான் தமிழும் விழல் விழலே.
    The Sanscrit of a Vellala, and the Tamil of a brahman, are equally faulty.
  66. வெள்ளாளர் செய்யாத வேளாண்மை வேளாண்மை அல்ல.
    Agriculture not performed by Vellalas, is no agriculture.

    Arrogance suited to one’s worthlessness.
  86. வெறும்பிலுக்கு வண்ணான் மாற்று.
    Finery borrowed from a washerman.
  87. வெறுவாய்க்கு இலைகெட்டவன் விறகுக்குப் போனால் விறகு கிடைத்தாற் கொடி கிடையாது கொடி கிடைத்தால் விறகு கிடையாது.
    If a worthless fool go out to gather firewood, he cannot procure a creeper, when he gets a creeper, he can find no firewood.
  88. வெறுவாய் மெல்லுகிற அம்மையாருக்கு நாழி அவல் அகப்படடதுபோல.
    As a measure of bruised dried rice given to an old dame, who had nothing to chew but an empty mouth.
  89. வெறு வாயைத் தின்றவனுக்கு வெள்ளை அவல் கிடைத்ததுபோல
    As one who had nothing to eat but an empty mouth obtained bruised rice.
  90. வெற்றி பெற்றவன் சுத்த வீரன்.
    He who has conquered is a perfect hero.
  91. வெற்றிலைக்குத் தண்ணீரும் வேசைக்கு மஞ்சளும்போல.
    Like water to the betel creeper, and saffron to a prostitute.
  92. வெற்றிலை போல் இருக்கும் மிகுந்த மரம் ஆகி விடும் புத்தி உள்ள பூமரத்துக்குப் பூவிரண்டு வக்கணையாம்.
    Its leaf is like betel leaf, it grows to a large tree, this intelligent tree has two flowers.
