This template inserts an em dash with surrounding hair spaces. This is used for em dash sets—such as this one—in many texts.

In some circumstances, the coding will render as a regular space, generating a style that is not generally recommended (see w:Template:—, which uses non-breaking spaces). This downside should be considered when deciding if a work should employ this template or not.

Also, be aware that many fonts do not support hair spaces and they will be replaced by various characters depending on the application. Exporting to ePub format shows the template as ?—?

This template also affects the display of the text,
—wrapping to the next line—by introducing a 'breaking space'.
