O'REILLY, William Joseph, J.P., D.L. Co. Louth; Commissioner of Education in Ireland; Resident Magistrate Co. Cavan, 1907, and for Co. Meath from 1917. Educ. at Ushaw College, and London University; Writer of occasional articles in New Ireland Review on Religious Persecutions in France, Irish Economic Problem, &c.; wrote and spoke on the Irish University question, and gave evidence before the Royal Commission, 1906, which resulted in the establishment of the National University; gave evidence (representing the Louth County Council before the Commission on Irish Railways, 1906; b. 16th Feb., 1864; eldest son of Major Myles Wm. O'Reilly, M.P.; (commanded St. Patrick's Battalion in Papal Army, 1860). Recns.: hunting, shooting, golf. Res.: Knock Abbey, Louth, Dundalk, and Beechmount, Navan. Club: United Service, Dublin.
