Literal English Translation Original Latin Line

Do you credit that I could curse my life,
who is dearer to me than both eyes?
I could not: nor, if I could, would I love so excessively:
but you with Tappo make everything a portent.

Credis me potuisse meae maledicere uitae,

Alternate Literal English Translation Original Latin Line

Do you think that I could have spoken ill of my life,
(she) who is dearer to me than both my eyes?
I could not have (done that)--nor, if I could (help it), would I love (her) so ruinously;
but you, and Tappo with you, you make everything out to be a portent.

Credis me potuisse meae maledicere uitae,
