Chap. 318.Joint Resolution Authorizing the presentation of medals to the officers and men of the Byrd antarctic expedition.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,Byrd Antarctic Expedition That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he is hereby,Medals to be presented by Secretary of the Navy, for presentation to officers and men of. empowered and directed to cause to be made at the United States mint such number of gold, silver, and bronze medals as he may deem appropriate and necessary respectively to be presented to the officers and men of the Byrd antarctic expedition to express the high admiration in which the Congress and the American peoplePost, p. 883. hold their heroic and undaunted services in connection with the scientific investigations and extraordinary aerial explorations of the Antarctic Continent, under the personal direction of Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, said medals to be suitably inscribed.

Sec. 2.Amount authorized for cost.That such amount as may be necessary for the cost of said medals is hereby authorized to be appropriated out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated.
