Monthly Challenge

2021

— Each month, the Wikisource community selects a series of text to proofread and validate.

— The works are featured for a maximum of three months with a few exceptions.

— The challenge is designed to build Wikisource's collection and help introduce new users to Wikisource.

— It helps to overcome systemic inequality by making scan-backed ebooks accessible to everyone for free.

Guideline[edit]

Welcome to this months challenge. For a general overview of proofreading, see Help:Beginner's guide to proofreading. The challenge has a few special guidelines and tips for new users.

Guidelines

  1. Do not remove line breaks, but please remove any hyphens when they are used to break words across lines.
  2. If you've worked on a page, but don't have time to finish, please save your work as "Not Proofread"
  3. If you encounter a difficulty such as a table, missing image, or a different alphabet, please mark the page as problematic and an experienced editor will review it.
  4. Once you have finished proofreading a page, make sure to mark it as proofread.
  5. Once you finish validating a page, make sure to mark it as validated.

Tips

  1. Many books published before 1820 feature a long s (ſ}. Replace those with {{ls}} to yield s.
  2. At the start of a verse of poem put <poem> and place a </poem> at the end.
  3. Mark the spot where an image should go with {{missing image}}

  • The number in red indicates the number of months that that the work has been featured here. A N is used for a New Work.
  • The flag indicates the country of publication, not where the author was born.
