It's not mine, it's the library's. In other words, I cannot take it out of the library and there is no scanner there; I must transcribe myself. The version I'm looking at right now is the non-compact edition. Andrewmackinnon 20:11, 22 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fractions[edit]

Hi, I just now got your message. For some reason, the WS didn't tell me I had any new messages. I went looking for the fractions you wanted me to insert, and I can only see about half of them. I'm assuming all of them show up on your computer (I get boxes for the middle ones), so could you tell me what font you've installed that lets you see those? And when I can see all of them I'll add the fractions (or I'll just go ahead and add the ones that show up on my computer while I wait).—Zhaladshar (Talk) 21:24, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Other languages in the insert bar[edit]

I don't mind putting up the languages, although I am a tad reluctant. The Greek is definitely fine--I've been meaning to put them up for a while--but I don't see what the point of the Hebrew and Cyrillic alphabets would be. Do you have any texts which use Hebrew/Cyrillic scripts in it? I mainly don't want to clutter up the insert bar and make it difficult for people to find characters. Although, as it is, I think it needs to be reorganized. But, again, if you get me the letters, I'll add them to it.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 18:54, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I should have known about EB1911. Alright, just give me the languages whenever you get a moment. Good look with the WS Tool section.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 19:09, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering, is it necessary to put the Greek letters with diacritics in the insert bar? Will they actually be used? Would the Hebrew ones be used as well? I'm trying not to clutter up that bit any more than it already is, is why I'm asking.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 00:48, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

EB1911[edit]

Hi. I took the text from the Gutenberg site that is referenced in the index. I don't have the original text and I suppose I figured the Gutenberg text was well proofread, although I guess it didn't have to go through distributed proofreaders or something as thorough. I'll read the manual for the EB1911 project. Thanks. Grenavitar 14:06, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

admin?[edit]

Would you mind if I nominated you for admin? You seem quite active, sensible, and knowledgeable. Right now, there are only five admins. Of those, I only see Zhaladshar, Dovi, and Yann around much lately. Though perhaps I've just missed Jusjih, as I've been in and out. Dovi, it seems, is also heavily involved in the he.wikisource. Ambi was just appointed, as everyone knows and trusts her, but I think she is most intensely involved in Wikipeda; plus she's spread a little thin as a new student at university. I think we could definitely use a few more. If the most active of these go on vacation & the others don't happen to log in, we'd be left adminless. That could be a real problem if we run into a persistent vandal. Besides which, it might be nice to take some of the routine load off Zhaladshar & the rest ... I'd be happy to do that myself, but feel I should contribute steadily another couple months so that people are familiar with me and thus comfortable. Wolfman 16:20, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisource:Administrators. I presume that the response by the ip on my Talk was you. Basically, someone (me) suggests your name. Then, if there is consensus support (at least what Zhaladshar deems a reasonable consensus), Zhaladshar makes you a sysop. It basically has the same powers as on Wikipedia, with which you are familiar as a long time 'pedian. I'd recommend having a look over the Wikipedia resources for new admins. Links to these resources are included at the top ofWikipedia:Requests for adminship. Wolfman 16:52, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

revolution[edit]

I want to categorize documents related to the events surrounding the independence of the American colonies. Here, in the States, it would usually be called the "American revolution" or the "American war for independence". I'd probably go with the former for brevity. However, I supsect that you lot over in England might call it something else. Do you have any suggestions for a nice, neutral category name. Or does one of the previous suit you? Thanks. P.S. we call the subsequent conflict the "War of 1812", what do you call it? Wolfman 19:20, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikificaton[edit]

Could you check out my user page and let me know what you think about that sort of setup compared to "Fuzzy-Wuzzy". I feel this set-up would answer objections, but do you feel it is an appropriate way display poetry? Will it become to cumbersome with longer works? It is not a great deal more efffort and by using templates there is an extra line of security for the proofread and formatted text.--BirgitteSB 16:20, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Admin[edit]

Hi, Apwoolrich. You're now an administrator.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 03:54, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting[edit]

This one's a bit tricky. I would say that without an actual hard copy, we'll probably never know how it was originally printed. I know Gutenberg usually puts italics in uppercase, but since they commonly put chapter titles in uppercase (and I doubt it's all uppercase in the actual book), we can't really go on that. My opinion would be that unless we can track down a hard copy, just to go with current conventions for rendering titles (italicize for books, put poems in quotations).—Zhaladshar (Talk) 09:17, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance[edit]

That's a good idea. There's one thing I've seriously thought needed fixing, and that was the documentation here and the "maintenance" pages which allow people to get involved and help improve Wikisource. Especially with pages that need small corrections (like the [Greek text] which Gutenberg can't display), these sorts of corrections go unnoticed or are at least not submitted to anyone for fixing. Please, go right ahead and add your page. It can only help.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 16:37, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Checklist[edit]

That's a good idea. I think the only documentation we have on submitting a text came over from WP (which, if it's still on our servers, will be horribly inefficient since WS is far different than WP). Making our own document specific to this site will be a great help. As of right now, I like the checklist and have nothing to add. I'm sure once it's been started I'll be able to help think of something to add to it.

And Tim Starling's scans are absolutely amazing. I'm SO glad we have them. Now, once I get some time, I'll be able to clear up some of my projects and resume work on EB1911.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:49, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, sir! I'll add my request to your page shortly. —Wikijeff

Help Pages[edit]

The help pages look good. We really did need that. I left a few questions on the poetry section. But it seem the person who wrote that section hasn't been around lately. I plan on looking for some solid information before I change anything.--BirgitteSB 03:48, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Uncle G's Bot[edit]

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. From what I can tell from the recent changes, his bot's just copying the help pages from Meta and bringing them over here. Do you think that his bot's vandalizing pages?—Zhaladshar (Talk) 14:46, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And I do agree that we need to be more rigorous on protecting pages. I don't think we've done any so far, and we have all the documentation written up, all the procedures set, community-wide support. We should probably start this one up.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 15:21, 28 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

I would be happy to be an admin. I really enjoy wikisource and try to help out as much as I can--BirgitteSB 16:00, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thanks for the offer, I'd be happy to put myself up for an adminship. AllanHainey 10:20, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

welcome & other tricks[edit]

have a look at my User:Wolfman/monobook.js. i've got all sorts of useful tabs programmed up. it just occurred to me though, that i can welcome the whole user creation log with a single click, so i'm about to program that up too. will probably run that under my bot account to avoid cluttering the changes log, you're welcome to purloin anything you like. (the afd & copyvio mechanisms pop an extra window which closes automatically upon submission)Wolf man 19:55, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you add the contents of User:Wolfman test account/monobook.js to your javascript, you should be able to welcome multiple people with a single click. A 'welcome everyone' tab will appear if you go to the newuser log. This is tested on FireFox, though it probably works on IE as well. If you try it, and it doesn't work, please let me know so I can improve it. It pops a second window, which will close automatically when the tagging is finished.
I am working on making various other useful scripts publicly available as well. For example, I can post handle a copyvio posting with a single click. Also, of course adding various templates and categories. I'd like to make a lot of the routine stuff here easier for everyone. Wolf man 20:28, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Portals[edit]

Please check out User:BirgitteSB/Portal:Poetry/1. I just wanted to thank you for the idea of using the Main Page "livery." I was at loss when it came to picking colors and I don't know all the code so I'm reduced to cutting and pasting from something else.--BirgitteSB 19:06, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link to the colour codes, I'll experiment with them when I can get this internet connection working consistently. Merry Christmas. AllanHainey 19:29, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Thank you for the welcome on my talk page. The links look helpful. I have read one or two pages and I hope to look at the rest soon. --Think Fast 15:42, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
