User talk:Genedoug~enwikisource
Hello Genedoug, welcome to Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.
You'll find an (incomplete) index of our works listed at Wikisource:Works, although for very broad categories like poetry you may wish to look at the categories like Category:Poems instead.
Please take a glance at our help pages (especially Adding texts and Wikisource's style guide). Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.
The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page! John Vandenberg (chat) 02:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
p.s. Your comments regarding EB1911 should be mentioned on our EB1911 project: WS:EB1911, which has a EB1911 style manual.
I have moved your EB1911 "Humanism" text to 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Humanism. The page you edited was the same topic in the CE1913[1]. We are missing many articles in EB1911, however we have a complete set of images here. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:23, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter. I've got tired of being disappointed every time I access the wiki, and think I won't be going there very much. It appears somebody is trying to replace Britannia 1913 with Catholic Encyclopedia 1911, which makes no sense, considering that we already have a Catholic Encyclopedia. And sometimes very good articles have been completely removed, and replaced with poetry or somebody's essay just generally related to the topic. ISt doesn't seem like a worthwhile place to spend one's time.
This project collects all public domain texts, including poetry, so it is quite likely that a page named "Love" is not the EB1911 article, and never was, as nobody has transcribed the EB1911 page for "Love" yet. We would love your assistance in expanding our coverage of EB1911. John Vandenberg (chat) 02:35, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- It was my understanding that you began with the whole EB1911, and proceeded as a wiki from there. If so, whole articles appear to have been removed, and replaced with other material, sometimes essays barely related to the subject, sometimes poetry, sometimes whole articles from the Catholic Encyclopedia, which is already available to the public, under its own name.
- Wikisource has only ever had a small portion of the EB1911.
- Wikipedia, another project run by the same non-profit, did at times create many pages using EB1911 articles, however was not a uniformly basis either. John Vandenberg (chat) 13:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Genedoug. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Genedoug~enwikisource that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
