Categories[edit]

contributor vs. override_contributor[edit]

I'm not sure if you're aware how the "contributor" and "override_contributor" parameters work in the {{header}} template. I want to explain it to you so that you will understand why I am replacing "override_contributor" with "contributor" in a lot of the articles you have created.

The "contributor" field automatically creates a link to an author page. Like this:

contributor = Harriet Martineau → by Harriet Martineau

We like to have author pages for all works that are hosted on Wikisource, so please use this field whenever you can.

Sometimes we don't know who the author of an article is. If the magazine only lists the author's initials, and you can't find out whose initials they are, you can use "override_contributor" instead so that it won't make an automatic link.

override_contributor = G. D. → by G. D.

You can also use this field to make a link that isn't automatic, like so:

override_contributor = [[Author:Harriet Martineau|Harriet Martineau]] and [[Author:Andrew Wynter|Andrew Wynter]] → by Harriet Martineau and Andrew Wynter

Summary: Use "contributor" if you know the author's name; use "override_contributor" if you can't find the author's name, or if the author link is too complicated for "contributor".

Colored images[edit]

Hi -- You've digitally colored the images you uploaded for Once a Week; is that allowed by Wikisource standards? I've been told to strictly not add anything that's not in the original. Actually, whether it's allowable or not, I'd really prefer if you didn't: I'd rather see the picture as it was published; and your colorization makes it difficult to see the lines! Peterson's Magazine[edit]

But that page uses full names. Hover to look at the link titles, such as Once a Week (magazine)/Series 1/Volume 1. Your links weren't pointing to page titles like that, but to naked volume names. --EncycloPetey (talk) 15:25, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is because the pages have not been created so I left them with the minimum info b/c whoever creates the volume pages will insert the correct name. Anyway I included the name of the
magazine already (all pages). Is that what you wanted or should I use more time to

What you've done will work. Long-time editors have noticed that, when a multi-volume Magazine is set up, the standard naming needs to be set up at the start. When it isn't, we end up with multiple editors all using different structure conventions which then have to be standardized, and this is a huge pain to do after the fact. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:48, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
