Redirects[edit]

Hi. I'm wondering why you are creating all those redirects? Interwiki redirection is disabled (so anyone clicking on those links will not be redirected to the German WS, but will view the page containing the link and the redirect picture). To boot, no pages link to the redirects you are creating. What are their purposes? Thanks.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 22:14, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you trying to link to the German authors because they are not on the English Wikisource? I mean, since this wiki does not have an author page for Elisabeth of Austria, you are creating a redirect to the German WS which does? Am I understanding what you are doing?—Zhaladshar (Talk) 22:23, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a couple of my concerns about this (note: it's not a bad idea, it's just not very efficient in how it's being gone about):
  1. The English WS uses the "Author:" prefix for all author pages. So, if Wikipedia links to a page here (say the wikipedia Elisabeth of Austria page links here), it will link to "Author:Elisabeth of Austria." No one will ever see the redirects you're making, because of our naming convention.
  2. If the English Wikipedia is linking to Elisabeth of Austria, then it's questionable whether people are going to want to go to the German WS to get information about her. Most English speakers who only speak English will probably not want to look at a German page, because they won't understand what it's saying (even the titles will not be in English, so it won't help the user at all).
  3. The best way to make sure that those author pages are created is to add them under Wikisource:Requested texts. Someone will come by and add works that author wrote. It's the surest way to ever get those works created (especially since the sheer magnitude of the pages here means that in a few days no one will ever know that those redirect pages were ever made, so it would be doubtful that anyone would ever come and create the desired author page).
I would suggest that you make a request for the German pages you want. And, if you know of a public domain source for these authors, list them as well. That way, it makes it all the easier (and possibly quicker) to get everything set up.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 22:39, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
