Dashiell Hammet
(1894–1961)

American author of hardboiled detective novels and short stories, screenwriter, and political activist: Known for the authenticity and realism of his writing, he drew on his experiences as a Pinkerton operative. His best known works include The Maltese Falcon, The Thin Man, and the Red Harvest.
