Alkoven, m.,’ bedchamber, alcove.’ first occurs in ModHG. from Fr. alcôve (comp. also E. alcove), which with its Rom. cognates is based upon Arab. al-qobbah, ‘vault, tent’; comp. Alchimie, also Alhambra, Alkoran.
