Style guide

[edit]

Please see http://wikisource.org/wiki/User:Quuxplusone/Poetry for a style guide I've put together on the formatting of poetry on Wikisource, with an emphasis on early and Romantic short works. It's not an official policy, or even a proposed guideline, but I encourage editors to use it! --Quuxplusone 22:13, 2 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

This is admirable. It should have a reference on the main Editing help page. (see Help in the navigation box to the left). If you agree I will do it later Apwoolrich 19:36, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Nice guide! We should definitely integrate this into Wikisource.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 20:48, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Categories of Poetry

[edit]

Just wondering: I want to upload an irish poem from the 9th century, but it doesn't fit in an existing category. What are people'e thoughts on creating a new, say, Early Poetry Category? Rredwell 02:52, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

"Early poetry" sounds too broad. It would definitely fit under something like Medieval Poetry, though.—Zhaladshar (Talk) 05:05, 20 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
"Epic poetry" as a category is a problem for me. The other categories appear to be more or less chronological, while the epic poems span a very broad period of time. Certainly the ancient Iliad and Odyssey would qualify, while longer 19th century poems like Childe Harold's Pilgrimage might also be considered epics. Works in between these two extremes, such as the Nibelungenlied and Orlando furioso, are certainly epics. Would there be any objection if I just deleted the category? Thanks. Dover Beach...

[edit]

...should be sorted into war poetry; for that is the correct topic. --124.171.30.77 07:42, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't see mention of it as "war poetry" on w:Dover Beach. Could you explain more ? John Vandenberg 08:05, 6 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
