SHELEM. A mountain to which the Jaredites gave this name because of its exceeding height, situated not far from the great ocean which they were about to cross. It was upon this mountain that the Savior touched with His finger the sixteen stones which were to give light in the barges built to carry them to the promised land; and here He showed Himself to the brother of Jared and revealed to him the great truths regarding His coming to the earth in the flesh.
