Burland, (Sir) John, s. John, of Wells (city), arm. Balliol Coll., matric. 25 Feb., 1740-1, aged 16; created D.C.L. 8 July, 1773, entered the Middle Temple 11 April, 1743, called to the bar Jan., 1746, serj.-at-law 1762, King's serjeant 1764, recorder of Wells, a baron of the Exchequer, (and knighted) 8 April, 1774, until his death 29 Feb., 1776, buried in Westminster Abbey 7 March.
