Gifford, William, s. Edward, of Ashburton, Devon, pleb. Exeter Coll., matric. 16 Feb., 1779, aged 21; Bible clerk 1779, B.A. 1782, editor of the Quarterly Review 1809-24, and of 'Massinger,' 'Ben Jonson,' 'Ford,' etc., founded the Gifford Exhibition at Exeter College, died 31 Dec., 1826.
