Cambridge 1866, and Dublin 2 Sep. 1857, deputy-reader in geology at Oxford 1853-7, president British Association 1868, keeper of the Ashmolean Museum 1854-70, professor of geology and keeper of the University Museum 1857, until his death 24 April, 1874.
