| Alexandru Ioan Cuza (also spelled Alexander Joan Cuza in English, sometimes misrendered as Alexander John Cuza) was the first and last princely ruler ("Domnitor" after 1600) of Roumanian origin for the United Roumanian Principalities, who was elected independently by popular vote in both Wallachia and Moldavia, and reigned from 1859 to 1866.
