The sole work currently listed on this author page is by "J. E. Oliver" of Cornell University; per [1], James Edward Oliver was a math department chair at Cornell in the right timeframe, with an interest in "ethics and moral philosophy". Furthermore, the Cornell Daily Sun at the time refers to just "Professor Oliver" or "Professor J. E. Oliver", suggesting that this was not an ambiguous title.
