Born in Chicago as Kate Alberta Helliwell. Married Budgett Meakin in 1900 and moved from the United States to the London metropolitan area. Had one son and lived as a widow from 1906 until her death in 1956 in Hendon.
- Thomas, Gillian (1992). "Meakin [Helliwell], Kate". A Position to Command Respect: Women and the Eleventh Britannica. p. 173. Colonel Charles J. Helliwell was from Liverpool and lived for some years in Vancouver. Kate's mother was Isabella Helliwell (who was born in Ireland in 1838 or 1839).
