Beetles, Butterflies and Bugs
School Program – BLM Campbell Creek Science Center

Get up close and personal with insects and other crawly creatures. Young entomologists use nets to capture insects and magnifiers to observe them in the field. Students try out different insect mouth parts, act out insect behaviors, and use their creative energies to build a Mini Beast. Program is best in spring, summer, or fall.

Students will:
  • Be able to name the parts of an insect.
  • Be able to describe one insect adaptation.
  • Be able to group insects based on characteristics.
  • Feel comfortable and excited to spend time outside looking for other insects.
  • Build your own insect using arts and crafts materials.
  • Go on an Insect investigation hike.
  • Practice using hand lenses, bug nets, and other tools scientists use to capture and look at insects.
Students will:
  • Use hand lenses.
  • Categorize animals.
  • Observe outdoor animal evidence.
