Formatting information[edit]
Columns[edit]
Do not try to repeat the two-column structure. The columns should be "unwrapped" so that the text flows normally; the text of the first column on top with the text of the second column underneath.
Hanging indent[edit]
There is no need to try to replicate the hanging indents at the start of each definition. Just transcribe the text of the definitions.
Small text[edit]
Quotations in smaller text can be created with the {{smaller block}} or {{smaller}} templates. The block version works best for larger sections as it changes the line height as well as the font size, making paragraphs look neater. For example:
{{smaller block|Some text here}}
If the smaller text continues across two pages, use {{smaller block/s}} and {{smaller block/e}} to begin and end the section. For example:
{{smaller block/s}}Some text here{{smaller block/e}}
Some quotations are in verse and the line breaks and indentation can be preserved by using the poem tag inside the {{smaller block}} template. For example:
{{smaller block|<poem>Some text here</poem>}}
Initials[edit]
Each section begins with an initial. This can be duplicated with the {{dropinitial}} template.
{{dropinitial|[[File:A initial (Dict Slang).png|50px|alt=A]]}}
Images for initials can be found on Commons at Category:Dictionary of Slang, Jargon & Cant (1889).
Other[edit]
- The text divider between sections is File:Dictionary of Slang text divider.png.
- Put a single line between paragraphs within a definition. Put two lines between separate definitions.
