The book is teaching ancient Greek to English language learners.

The stories in Greek are pages 32 through page 145 (numbered as pages 1 thru 114).

  • "Preface" is chiefly English with occasional Greek snippets, pages 10-31 (iii-xxiv)
  • "Stories" is in Greek, pages 32-145 (1-114)
  • "Notes" are Greek snippets with extended English explanations, pages 146-173 (115-142)
  • "General vocabulary", a Greek to English dictionary, pages 174-217 (143-186)
  • "Vocabulary of Proper Names", a Greek to English dictionary of names, e.g. "Athena", pages 218-223 (187-192)

Pages 10-31 and pages 146-223 are chiefly in English, for 100 pages in English.

Pages 32-145 are in Greek, for 114 pages in Greek (except for the section titles e.g. "22. Courage under misfortune")
