Obscured names of people and places[edit]

Throughout this work the names of certain people and places are obscured, being represented by an initial capital followed by a dash, sometimes followed by a lower case letter. The length of the dash varies; in many cases this is done to adjust the line length, but not always. However, all instances have been standardised as 'X{{longdash}}' or X{{longdash}}y' as appropriate. The entries are also enclosed (probably unnecessarily) in {{nowrap}} Chrisguise (talk) 14:52, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Quotation marks[edit]

Speech is enclosed in double quotation marks. Where this runs over several lines, quotation marks appear at the beginning only of each line. These intermediate quotation marks are omitted from the transcription, with only the first and last ones being retained, including where a speech continues from one page to the next. This approach enables proper and readable rending of the text on transclusion.

There are occasional errors in the use of quotation marks, especially where there is speech within speech. These have been transcribed as is. Chrisguise (talk) 10:39, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
