Page numbering[edit]

In this work there are a number of plates. These do not carry page numbers, nor does the blank reverse page but both are allocated numbers in the page numbering sequence. Associated with each plate is a protective 'tissue' paper, both sides of which have been scanned. These 'tissue' paper pages are not allocated page numbers. Thus, with each plate, there are two additional blank pages.

There is believed to be an error in the page numbering between pages 342 and 349. Following 342 (numbered) is an unnumbered title page (343, based on ToC) and its blank reverse (344), two unnumbered tissue paper pages, an image (345) and its blank reverse (346), then 349 (per ToC, but unnumbered - as is the first page of each piece) then 350 (numbered). There is nothing missing based on the ToC, and by reference to other scans of this and later editions. It is thus concluded that it is a page numbering error.

There also seems to be an error in the page numbering at the beginning of the work. Page 9 (unnumbered, but based on ToC), is followed by its blank reverse (10), two unnumbered tissue paper pages, an image and its blank reverse, then 11 (unnumbered, based on ToC) and 12 (numbered). Based on the rest of the work, the image and its blank reverse should have been allocated page numbers 11 and 12, and page 11 should be 13, 11 be 12, etc. This error would then correct at page 349.
