When showing history...?[edit]

Would it make more sense to maintain &oldid= in the new URL? As this gadget stands if used during an action=history request the revision display is snapped from the older one currently being displayed to the latest update available. Or have I misunderstood the intent? AuFCL (talk) 06:27, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're confusing the [article] PAGEID number (static; once created never changes even if page is "moved") with history revision ids, no? -- George Orwell III (talk) 06:43, 28 February 2016 (UTC) [reply]
Not at all. curid corresponds with the page title, irrespective of revision; oldid corresponds to the revision independently of the page title. Thus (using this page as an example) this is entirely equivalent to the latest version; but this and this are also perfectly legal references too, just not (entirely) equivalent to the first one. If this is an unintended side-issue then just drop it. AuFCL (talk) 07:18, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I worded the first point badly. I did not intend tracking oldid as an alternative but as an an adjunct (i.e. in addition) to curid. Apologies for the confusion. AuFCL (talk) 07:22, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure you can swap the article title text for curid and then point to specific revision history like you did above but that's more than I can do (or need) in a simple side bar applet. No worries ;) -- George Orwell III (talk) 07:32, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is always [[special:permalink]] I suppose. AuFCL (talk) 08:12, 28 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
