D.C.L. Oxon 1883, junior truck commissioner 1870, recorder of Penzance 1871-9, common law counsel to Treasury 1871-9, justice of High Court of Justice, Queen's Bench Division, 1879-82, a student of Lincoln's Inn 16 April, 1857 (then aged 22), called to the bar there 26 Jan., 1861, a member of the Middle Temple 18 Nov., 1873, bencher of Lincoln's Inn 30 June, 1879 (eldest son of Rev. Christopher Bowen, of Winchester, Hants); born , 1835; married 7 Jan., 1862, Emily Frances, dau. of late James Medows Rendel, Esq., F.R.S.
