Carter, Samuel, M.P. Tavistock in two parliaments, April, 1852, to Feb., 1853, when he was unseated, contested that borough in 1847 and 1857, a revising barrister 1879-84, author of Midnight Effusions and The Avenge, a member of the Western circuit, a student of the Middle Temple 25 Oct., 1844, called to the bar 6 Nov., 1847 (only son of John Carter, of Tavistock, Devon); born 11 Nov., 1814; married 1 March, 1858, Caroline, dau. of Capt J. W. Bennison, commander H.M.S. Stirling Castle.
