Gurdon, Robert Thornhagh, M.P., M.A. (hon.), Trin. Coll., Camb., 1852, J.P., D.L., chairman of quarter sessions Norfolk, lt.-col. 4th (vol.) batt. Norfolk regiment, M.P. South Norfolk since 1880, an Etonian, a student of Lincoln's Inn 26 March, 1852 (then aged 22), called to the bar 26 Jan., 1856 (eldest son of Brampton Gurdon, Esq., of Letton, Norfolk, M.P.); born 18 June, 1829; married 1st, 4 Sept., 1862, Harriott Ellen, 6th dau. of Sir William Miles, Bart., M.P. (see Foster's Baronetage); she died 7 April, 1864; he married 2ndly, 29 July, 1874, Emily, dau. of late Rev. Robert Boothby Heathcote, of Chingford, Essex, and has issue (see Foster's Peerage, B. Aveland).
