Knowles, Mark, a member of the Northern circuit, vice-chairman Blackburn School Board 1875, educated at St. John's National School, Blackburn, ironfounder and engineer 1856–76, inventor of the patent expanding comb, the patent centre-point warping machine, etc., a student of the Middle Temple 17 Jan., 1876, called to the bar 17 Nov., 1879 (youngest son of late Mark Knowles, of Blackburn, co. Lanc., dec.); born 26 Sept., 1834; married 1st, 25 June, 1857, Hannah, dau. of William Wolstenholme, Esq.; she died , 1872, leaving 3 sons and 2 daus.; he married 2ndly, 10 March, 1874, Blanche Adèle, dau. of Sir Joseph Devereux, of Windsor.
