Pope, Samuel, Q.C., recorder of Bolton since 1869, contested Stoke 1857 and Bolton 1865 and 1868, a member of the Northern circuit, J.P., D.L. co. Merioneth, a student of the Middle Temple 13 Nov., 1855, called to the bar 7 June, 1858, O.C. 23 June, 1869, bencher 27 Jan., 1870 (eldest son of Samuel Pope, of London, merchant); born 11 Dec., 1826; married , 1848, Hannah, dau. of late Thomas Bury, Esq., of Timperley Lodge, Cheshire; she died , 1880.
