Downing Coll., Camb., 1829, B.A., Clare Coll., Camb., 1826, vice-president Local Government Board Ireland 1872-9, assistant poor law commissioner England 1834, chief commissioner poor law Ireland 1849, a student of the Middle Temple 3 Feb., 1827, called to the bar 12 Feb., 1830 (6th son of John Power, of Lichfield, M.D.); born 1 Feb., 1805; married 30 Sept., 1836, Lucy Anne, elder dau. and co-heir of Thomas Starkie, Q.C., fellow of Catherine Hall, Camb., Downing professor of law at Camb., by his wife Lucy, dau. of Rev. Thomas Dunham Whitaker, LL.D., F.S.A., the well-known antiquary and local historian; she died 27 Nov., 1882 (see Foster's Lancashire Collection).
