Smith, Charles Manley, a master of supreme court of judicature since 1879, of Queen's bench 1865-75, of Queen's bench division 1875-9, author of A Treatise on the Law of Master and Servant, editor of Hodges on Railways, 3rd, 4th, and 5th edn., and other legal works, educated at Winchester Coll., a student of the Middle Temple 6 Nov., 1844, special pleader 1847-53, went to the Inner Temple 6 and called to the bar there 30 April, 1853 (youngest son of William Smith, Esq., late of Fairy Hall, Mottingham, Kent, dec.); born 8 Nov., 1819; married 3 Aug., 1848, Georgina Fanny, youngest dau. of Robert Ibbetson, governor of Penang, etc., and has issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
