Smith, Horace, recorder of Lincoln since 1881, member of the Bar Committee since Dec., 1883, a revising barrister on Midland circuit since 1871, secretary to royal commission to inquire into election corrupt practices at Oxford 1880, author of treatises on The Law of Landlord and Tenant and The Law of Negligence, editor of Addison on Contracts and Roscoe's Criminal Evidence, 10th edn., B.A., Trin. Hall, Camb., 1860, educated at King's Coll., London, a student of the Inner Temple 14 Jan., 1859 (then aged 22), called to the bar 30 April, 1862 (youngest son of late Robert Smith, of London); born 18 Nov., 1836; married 27 April, 1870, Susan Elinor Penelope, dau. of late Rev. C. F. Watkins, vicar of Brixworth, Northants.
