Sutherst, Thomas, undergraduate Pembroke Coll., Camb., a member of the North-eastern circuit, standing counsel to the Salvation Army, capt. 20th North York (Guisborough) rifle volunteers 1877–80, president and founder of the Shop Hours League, president of Metropolitan Temperance Open-air Mission, author of Death and Disease behind the Counter, etc., a student of the Inner Temple 25 April, 1874 (then aged 22), called to the bar 26 Jan., 1877 (eldest son of John Sutherst, of Guisborough, Yorks); born 16 Oct, 1852.
