Sailor’s Lamentation.

O I'll set myself down and I'll mourn
to think upon what I have done,
I fixed my mind on a comely young lass
when I was a boy so young.

Passing fourteen years of age,
I fixed my mind so sure,
I fixed my mind on a comely young lass
O the torments I endure.

When into my hammock I do go,
thinking some sweet rest to take,
She runs then so fresh in my (illegible text)d
I float on her white snowy breast

And when to h'er fathers I do go,
to kiss her sweet lips I do crave,
And if that fortune will not smile me,
O the sea shall be my watery grave.

Her cheeks are like the cherry so red,
that grows on yonder fine tree,
Her veins are like the violet so blue,
what a lovely fine creature is she.

Her hair is as black as a sloe,
which doth my heart suprise,
Her skin is like the velvet so soft,
she has diamonds in both her eyes.

Her breath is as sweet as a rose,
her breast is like the ivory so white,
And when in her company I did sing
my heart was ravish'd with her delight.

But now she has left me to mourn,
no comfort in her I can find,
I will go down till my heart turn,
since she will not alter her mind.
