Royal Decree
Dissolving the House of People's Representatives,
2556 BE

Bhumibol Adulyadej R
Given on the 9th day of December 2556 BE
Being the 68th year of the present reign

Phra Bat Somdet Phra Paramin Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej gives a great royal command by which He orders with His pleasure that it be announced as follows:

Whereas the Prime Minister has humbly made the following submission to Him: Since the Government assumed the duties to handle the public services of the State in 2554 BE, the Government has been determined to reinforce the equality of the people throughout the Country and the Government has implemented various policies and measures as addressed to the National Assembly, which cover both the agricultural sector and the industrial economic sector and which include the enhancement of the quality of the people's lives by increasing the purchasing power domestically, creating balance and strength to the macroeconomic system in a quality manner in order to support the decelerating global economic condition, and reviving the relations and developing the cooperation with neighbouring countries and all [other] countries expeditiously.

The Government has given importance to the reform of politics through extensive public participation, but the ongoing problems of conflict and discord amongst the people of the Nation have affected the handling of the public services of the State and the reputation of the Nation as well. Although the Government has attempted to ease the problems by peaceful means and has followed the steps of the law and the process of the Constitution, it is unable to bring the said problems to an end. Thus [the Government] finds it appropriate to dissolve the House of People's Representatives and organise a general election of new Members of the House of People's Representatives in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Thailand, in order to return the power of making political decisions to the people throughout the Country and allow the parliamentary administration under the democratic regime with a Monarch as Head [of State] to continue continuously;
