CHAPTER 108.

JOINT RESOLUTIONS RELATIVE TO THE REBELLION.

Be [it] resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Dakota:

1. That the rebellion existing in several of the states is without any adequate or just cause; that it was devised, organized, and armed for the disruption of the Union, the destruction of the government, and the abridgment or overthrow of the liberties of the people.

2. That the present war is prosecuted for the integrity of the union, the preservation of the constitution, and the supremacy of the government; and that the plain, simple, stern alternative is now presented to the people of crushing out treason, or yielding the national existence.

That this territorial administration, by the faithful discharge of their duties in raising for the service of the general government all the troops required by the secretary of war, have placed the territory among the foremost of the territories of the Union, and are entitled to receive the highest commendation from every citizen.

6. That we tender to all those noble patriots, whether native or foreign born, who are now battling for the maintenance of the constitution of the United States, the supremacy of the laws, and the preservation of the Union, our heartfelt thanks for their patriotic sacrifices. May their services ever be remembered only to be honored, and we wish them a happy and speedy
