himself, consequently not a distinct God of himself, but that by the holy ghost is meant the holy divine, coming forth, and proceeding, from the one only omnipresent God, who is the Lord. To this the angels, who stood at the golden table, whereon the word was placed, said, Well; it is not written in any part of the old testament that the prophets spake the word from the holy ghost, but from Jehovah; and wherever the holy ghost is mentioned in the new testament, it signifies the divine-proceeding, which is the divine that enlighteneth, instructeth, vivifieth, reformeth, and regenerateth. After this came on another subject of inquiry respecting the holy ghost, viz. From whom proceedeth the divine which is signified by the holy ghost; from the father, or from the Lord? And whilst they were engaged in this inquiry, there shone a light from heaven, whereby they saw, that the holy divine, which is signified by the holy ghost, doth not proceed from the father through the Lord, but of the Lord from the father, comparatively as in the case of every individual man, whose activity doth not proceed from the soul through the body, but of the body from the soul. This the angel who stood at the table confirmed by these passages from the word, He whom the father hath sent speaketh the word of God; for God giveth not the spirit by measure unto him, the father loveth the son, and hath given alll things into his hand, John iii. 34, 35. There shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse; the spirit of Jehovah shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, Isaiah, xi. 1, 2. That the spirit of Jehovah was put upon him, and was in him, Chap, xlii. 1. lix. 19. 21. Chap. lxi. 1. Luke iv. 18.
