*ברסם m. (Parel of בסם, cmp. בלסם) a dripping like balsam, whence catarrh of the head. Hull. 105b לב׳ קשי Ar. (ed. לכ׳, Mus. כרסום) is liable to produce catarrh; וכ׳ דחמרא לב׳ a remedy for a catarrh contracted from drinking the foam ofwine, is beer; for thet from beer &c. -- Gitt. 69a לב׳ a remedy for &c. ברץ (בר; cmp. ברז, v. P. Sm. 618) to break through. P. ברץ to cut through from end to end. Part. Pu. מבורן. Tosef. Kil. III, 10 המב׳ חרין a ditch which is cut through, going from end to end of the vineyard (Mish. ib. V, 3 מפולש). Men. I, 2 מב׳ קמצו the priest's grasp of the meal offering must be coming forth on both sides.
ברץ ch. same; Pa. ברץ to bore. Ab. Zar. 59b ובירצוה דשייפא עד Ar. (ed. וברצוה) and bore into the keg, until it is emptied (Rashi; bend it owards the bung-hole).

Hif. הבריק 1) (cmp. ברח ברן) to cut through from end to end. Y. Kil. V, 29d bot. וכ׳ כדי מבריק שיהא עד until it (the ditch in the vineyard) passes through from end to end, wide enough forr man and his tilling cattle. -- 2) (denom. of ברק) to be afected by lightning, get blind (or getvermin). ברק I, בריק ch. same, to shine, rise. Y. Yoma III, beg. 40b; Y. R. Hash. II, beg. 57d what is בורקי (Mish. Yoma III, 1)? It means ברקת, the rising light, as people say in Babylonia ברוקה ברוק (ברוקא ברק) the sparkling (star) shines, meaning מנהורא אנהר the light-giver(morn- ing star) gives light. [Bab. Yoma 28b (hebr.) ברקאי ברק.] Ber. 59a (expl. רעמים) וכ׳ בעננא דבריק תקיפא ברקא an intense lightning which flashes through the cloud and breaks pieces of hailstone, (Var. v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.).
