כסיתא f. (כמי II) [the covered, rare,] 1) coral; 2) coral- wood. B. Bath. 80b, sq.; R. Hash. 23a, v. אלמוג; Yalk. Is. 314 סכסיתא (corr. acc.). R. Hash. l. c. כ׳ מסקן ארמאי דבי the light ships (v. בורני) of the Romans are employed for fishing corals. Ib. *כסיתא f. a phonetic rendition of קשיטה q. v. Gen. R. s. 79 (corr. vers. after Ar. s. v. קשיטה) (they heard one woman say to another) כסיתתך לי אשאלי (for קשיטתך, meaning to say מרגליתיך); (and furthermore) הדא אפיק למרעיא כ׳ lead this K'ssitta out to pasture (meaning to say אימרתא); [Ar. reads קשיט׳].
כסך, כסכס m. (transpos. of סכסך q.v.; cmp. געגע), pl. כסכים, כסכסים leather thongs for crosswise fastening (cmp. b. h. שרך a. על; שרוך). Sabb. 138b בכסכיו הגוד Ar. (Ms. O. בכסכסיו; ed. בכיסנא, read; בכיסכא; Ms. M. חגור בנסבא, read; בכסכא הגוד, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l.) it is permitted to stretch the milk (or wine) bag by its thongs, v. גוד. Ib. 139b ובכסכיה בכילה Ar. (ed. יבכסכסיה) wrapt in a bed- curtain with the thongs attached.
כסכוס m. (next w.) rubbing. Zeb. 94b לי דלית כיבוס וכ׳ כ׳ washing without rubbing is not called kibbus.
כסכס (v. כסס) 1) to rub, scour. Nidd. IX, 7 וצריך וכ׳ לסשכס one must scour with these substances three times. Sabb. 141a מבפנים מכסכסו he may rub the mud off from the inside. Y. ib. VII, 10a bot. יכסכס שלא ובלבד provided that he does not rub. -- 2) to chew, gnaaw, v. כסס.
כסכס ch. same, to rub, to polish. Sabb. 140a כסכוסי, v. כיתניתא. M. Kat. 10b קירמי לכסכוסי to gloss fine clothes by rubbing with a substance. Zeb. 94b top אין שכשוכי לא כסכוסי (quot. in Sh'ilt. d'R. כסל c. (b. h.; כסס, cmp. חרצא) 1) [incision,] groin, loin. -- Bekh. 40a, v. כסול. Yalk. Gen. 133 (quot. fr. Midr. Vayisu) ימנית בכסא (corr. acc.) in the right loin. -- Pl. כסלים, כסלין. Tosef. Bekh. IV, 10 [read] יוצאין שכסליו כל a kasul is one whose loins protrude. Sabb. 31b להם דינש הכ׳ על חלב Ar. (ed. כסלם) and yet have fat on the groins (are careless). -- Trnsf. 2) (cmp. טפש) laeiness, inactivity; 3) trust; 4) thought. Yalk. Num. 742; Yalk. Ps. 819 quot. fr. Y'lamd. (v. Ar. s. v. כסל) וכ׳ מחשבתם . . . כסלם kislam (Ps. LXXVIII, 7) means their thought, as we read (Lev. III, 4, cmp. כליה) 'that which is by the loins; (oth. opin.) טיפשותן it means their inactivity, as it is said (Koh. IV, 5) &c.; (oth. opin.) בטחונן their trust as we read (Job XXXI, 24) &c.
